Albany’s cool kids spot
In our previous post, we talked about traveling to Albany and don’t hate me, but it turned out that Albany's main highlight is their government building complex. After that, some cute older buildings and architecture are worth wandering around the streets for another hour or so and then you are pretty done with Albany!
The true gem of the area lies about 20 minutes north across the Hudson River in a small town called Troy.
We almost stayed in Troy because in my research on the area, it kept coming up in travel articles as the area’s “next big thing”. However, I wanted to stay central so that going to Hudson and the Berkshires would still be an option if the area bombed.
Driving into Troy, I began to see what people have been raving about. Troy sits right on the Hudson River, with its downtown core facing the water. The old brownstones in this village are so beautiful and I regret not snapping photos of all the doors. The cobblestone streets are reminiscent of Europe and there are a lot of cute shops and small art centric businesses popping up.
There were a few antique shops open so naturally, I took a look.
These awesome Thonet style folding chairs were waiting for me in the corner. (Trip highlight!)
I see us using them for a cottage project we have coming up but if they don’t work out - they will go up for sale in the Fall.
More spots to check out in Troy:
An unbelievably beautiful coffee shop!
Artcentric Eclectic Marketplace
Good vintage mix where I found my chairs, they had some MCM stuff for reasonable prices and some fun local products.
We didn’t get a chance to go here but it looked like the perfect afternoon spot to perch for a little while!
A custom lighting shop that I window shopped because it was closed and found the perfect floor lamp for a current mcm themed project.
